Our Peer Support Services connect individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges with a certified Peer Support Specialist who shares similar lived experiences. Through coaching, skill-building, community connection, and individual advocacy, peer support helps individuals navigate and achieve meaningful recovery.
At its core, Peer Support is about empathetically understanding someone's situation through shared experience. It allows people to connect with others who have walked a similar path and receive support from someone who truly understands their recovery journey.
Informal peer support is not a new concept. It has long existed through friends, family, and community. However, in the past decade, shared experience has gained formal recognition as a vital and complementary part of recovery in behavioral health. This shift has led to a growing number of paid peer roles and a broad expansion of related services, terminology, practices, research, and resources.
Renaissance Wellness Services proudly offers a team of Peer Support Specialists who are in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use. They voluntarily support others by sharing their lived experience, fostering hope, and offering practical guidance. Each team member is certified by the North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist Program (NCCPSS), ensuring they meet all requirements to deliver quality, person-centered support.
